Free Scholarships at Brandman University
Free Scholarships at Brandman University include scholarship money provided by businesses and professional organisations, these scholarships are for students from Brandman University partner businesses or professional organisations, students who want to apply for a Brandman scholarship will need to be currently employed by a Scholarship Partner of Brandman University, students employed by a partner company or professional body who are awarded a scholarship must never miss more than two sessions (lectures or tutor time) in a row, if the student does miss more than two sessions then the scholarship will be discontinued.
If the student is enrolled on the Doctorate in Education programme and receives a scholarship then the student must never miss any sessions, if the student misses any sessions then the scholarship will cease, generally having a doctor's note or similar provable and unavoidable incident will ensure that the scholarship is still maintained. The student must also make satisfactory progress throughout their degree programme which generally means that their coursework is completed on time and grades remain constant or show improvement.
Brandman University also require that the scholarship student remain in good academic and financial standing and this usually means maintaining grades, not missing coursework or submitting coursework late and not falling into arrears with any payments for course fees with the university.
To apply for the Brandman University scholarship students who are employed by a partner business or institution must enrol at the university onto their course and then apply for the scholarship when the academic year starts (after they have attended their first class). Students can download the scholarship application form which simply asks for the student's name, address and course they have enrolled on plus the company or organisation that is affiliated with the university (and has a scholarship partnership with the university), students then post or email the completed application form to the universities admissions office.
Brandman University only directly offer scholarships to the employees of partner companies and institutions, if you are a student with no affiliation to these partner companies or institutions then Brandman University recommends several publicly available scholarships that its students can apply for, whilst there are many scholarships in existence Brandman only recommend a select few as suitable for Brandman students, this does make it easy for the Brandman student knowing what scholarships other Brandman students have applied for and received.
Brandman University recommend students apply for several scholarships, Brandman have catalogued these scholarships according to faculty with Arts, Science, Business, Education and Nursing being the scholarships available, for the Arts and Science, Business and Education scholarships Brandman recommend the AmeriCorps Education Award Scholarship, this scholarship is part of AmeriCorps the Corporation for National and Community Service which is for adults to participate in community service and is backed by the US federal government as well as foundations and corporations in America.
AmeriCorps Education Award Scholarship
The AmeriCorps Education Award Scholarship is for students who as well as being part of AmeriCorps enrol in the AmeriCorps Education Award Program, these students will then receive a scholarships based on their service in AmeriCorps whether part time or full time service, the amount of service will determine the size of the scholarship available, the scholarship can be used for education or training or repaying students loans.
Law Enforcement Personal Dependents Grant Program (LEPD)
Another public scholarship Brandman University recommend for its Arts, Science, Business and Education faculty students is the Law Enforcement Personal Dependents Grant Program (LEPD), this is a scholarship award to the dependants (children) and spouse (husband or wife) of men and women who have been killed or totally disabled carrying out their duties as Californian police officers, Department of Corrections employees and full time fire fighters plus a range of other public bodies. The scholarship available for dependants and spouses is needs based, so if you cannot meet the cost of education then this scholarship can be applied for.
California National Guard Education Assistance Award Program (CNG EAAP)
The next Arts, Science, Business and Education faculty scholarship recommended by Brandman University is the California National Guard Education Assistance Award Program (CNG EAAP) this organisation provides scholarships to members of the Californian National Guard, Naval Militia and Military Reserve soldiers.
Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarship
Brandman also recommend the Mensa Education and Research Foundation Scholarship, Mensa is the high IQ society for people who take a supervised IQ test and score 98% or more in the standard test. Mensa have scholarships and funding available for education, the scholarships are available to both Mensa members and non-members although there are more scholarship opportunities for members. Mensa holds a nationwide (USA) scholarship competition each year that can be entered by Mensa members and non-members.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund
Brandman also recommend the Hispanic Scholarship Fund this organisation helps Hispanics get a scholarship, apply to university, provide information on education and apply for other types of funding, many different types of scholarship are available for students looking to take a undergraduate or postgraduate degree and as well as finding the Hispanic student a scholarship the Hispanic Scholarship fund can also help find employment for Hispanic students once they have completed their degree. The Hispanic Scholarship Fund HSF has awarded more than $350 million dollars to Hispanic students for their scholarships.
Korean American Scholarship Foundation (KASF)
For Korean students Brandman University recommend the Korean American Scholarship Foundation (KASF), the foundation helps Korean-Americans find scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate study, the KASF is a volunteer organisation, whilst most of the scholarship money is available for Korean-Americans only, smaller awards are made to non-Korean-American students, for example Korean students who have just settled in the United States or American students with some connection to Korea.
The National Italian American Foundation (NAIF)
The National Italian American Foundation (NAIF) is also recommended by Brandman, this foundation awards scholarships in two categories, category one is what Brandman University recommend Brandman students apply for which is a scholarship for all areas of study for students with Italian American parentage, the NAIF scholarship is based on merit and not financial need, so the student might be able to pay for their own university fees and still be eligible for the NAIF scholarship, the scholarship is awarded to the best students who apply for the scholarship, note that students should not be dissuaded from applying because the scholarship is aimed at the best students only as students will be chosen from all subject areas so you might well be the best in your subject area that has chosen to apply for the scholarship.
Gates Millennium Scholars Program
For the Arts, Science, Business and Education faculty Brandman also recommend that students apply for the Gates Millennium Scholars Program.
Brandman University recommend these scholarships for all faculties (Arts, Sciences, Business and Education) other than Nursing AmeriCorps Education Award Scholarship, Law Enforcement Personal Dependents Grant Program (LEPD), California National Guard Education Assistance Award Program, Mensa Education and Research Foundation, Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Korean American Scholarship Foundation, The National Italian American Foundation and The Gates Millennium Scholars Program.
After College American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Scholarship Fund
For nursing scholarships Brandman recommends the After College/AACN Scholarship Fund which awards a scholarship of $2,500 for students who are studying for a postgraduate degree (masters or doctorate degrees) or baccalaureate in nursing.
Indian Health Service (IHS) Loan Repayment Program
A very interesting scholarship opportunity exists (and is recommended by Brandman University) which is the Indian Health Service (IHS) Loan Repayment Program where the Indian government will repay student loans for students that have graduated as a health professional in exchange for full time clinical service in India in an Indian health programme, what is great about this opportunity is that not only does the student get their student loans repaid by the Indian Health Service but the student also gets work experience in an Indian hospital or health centre (in India) what this means is that when the student returns to the USA after having worked to repay the student loan the student will be more employable by US hospitals and heath centres because they will have had valuable work experience.
National Association of Neonatal Nurses Scholarship (NANN Scholarship)
For students following nursing Brandman University recommend the National Association of Neonatal Nurses Scholarship (NANN Scholarship) which is for neonatal students following a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree or a degree in neonatal nursing or a nursing administration degree.
National Black Nurses Association Scholarships (NBNA Scholarships)
The National Black Nurses Association Scholarships (NBNA Scholarships) are for black nurses studying for an advanced nursing degree or baccalaureate (other classes of degree are also eligible for scholarships).
National Health Services Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program
Brandman also recommend the National Health Services Corps (NHSC) Loan Repayment Program where students can get a loan repayment to repay loans up to $60,000, to qualify for the loan repayment qualified nurses must work full time for two years or part time for four years at a NHSC approved health centre or hospital. If the nursing student on graduation works part-time for at least two years at an NHSC approved hospital then half the repayment ($30,000) will be made. Approved health centres and hospitals have been setup across the United States in what the NHSC call HPSA Health Professional Shortage Areas.
Oncology Nursing Society Foundation Scholarships
Brandman University recommend the Oncology Nursing Society Foundation Scholarships for a wide range of study including bachelors, masters and doctoral degrees as well as post masters certificates for nursing students studying oncology.
National Association of Hispanic Nurses Scholarship (NAHN)
As well as the Hispanic Scholarship Fund for public scholarships in a wide range of subjects, Hispanic nurses can apply for the National Association of Hispanic Nurses Scholarship (NAHN), this is a scholarship for Hispanic students which awards between $1,000 to $2,000 for nursing students studying maternal child nursing at the masters degree level as well as smaller scholarships for the study of nursing at any level including baccalaureate.
Active Duty Health Professions Loan Repayment Program
As well as NHSC Loan Repayment by the National Health Services Corps which will repay up to $60,000 to students who have qualified at degree level with a healthcare professional qualification in return for work in a NHSC approved health centre or hospital the Active Duty Health Professions Loan Repayment Program will repay student loans of up to $50,000 in exchange for active duty in the U.S Army, if you don't want to join the army to get your student loan repaid then consider the Indian Health Service (IHS) Loan Repayment Program where a healthcare professionals entire student loan will be repaid by the Indian government in return for working in an Indian hospital or heath centre to repay the loan, if you don't fancy military service then this is another good way to experience a different part of the world and have your student loans repaid.
Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Nurse Officer Program
Brandman also recommend student nurses consider the Army Reserve Officers Training Corps (ROTC) Nurse Officer Program which provides scholarships to nurses who want to attend officer training programmes in the U.S Army, training, scholarships and employment are offered by the Army Reserves, this is a similar scholarship programme to the Active Duty Health Professions Loan Repayment Program but is more about officer training than active service in the army (although that is the ultimate end goal of the army programme).
Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc Scholarships
Nursing students from ethnic minorities can get a $50,000 scholarship from Chi Eta Phi Sorority Inc. The sorority makes scholarships available for students at the local, regional and national level so there are many scholarship opportunities, note that this scholarship award is from a sorority so only female nurses may apply.
Exceptional Nurse Scholarship
The Exceptional Nurse Scholarship awards $500 to several nursing students who have a disability, as several awards are made each year there is a good chance that applicants will receive an award, if your studying nursing and have a disability then this award should be high on your list of scholarships and bursaries to apply for.
Health Professions Education Foundation Scholarship
The Health Professions Education Foundation offer both a scholarship and a loan repayment award, the scholarship is for students studying for a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN),the scholarship amount is $13,000 and the student loan repayment award will repay up to $19,000 of student loans.
National Student Nurses Association Scholarship
For undergraduate degrees like a BSN Bachelors of Science degree in nursing the National Student Nurses Association offer a range of scholarships. Not just for BSN degrees but a wide range of health professional undergraduate programmes.
Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Division of Nursing Scholarship
The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is an agency of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the HRSA division of Nursing offers a Nurse Loan Repayment and Scholarship Program which offers student loan repayments to graduating and registered nurses who choose to work in a HRSA designated underserved area.
